The wild horses of Sable Island are the subject of my newest series of art projects. I haven’t picked up charcoal and sepia to create compositions and drawings in over 27 years. The last drawing I did was a sketch when I was 16ish of an unfinished doodle from Leonardo de Vinci.
All my artwork from the time I was a child up through adulthood I had to destroy due to mold contamination. It’s time for me to make some new pieces to grace our home.
Horses have always held a special place in my heart and I’ve always felt particularly close to them in a way I could never express with words…so I won’t try.
Anyway, after searching for photos of wild horses, I fell in love with Robert M. Dutesco’s photographs of the wild horses of Sable Island. I will be searching for other photographs also, but so far I’ve found my favorite and will be working on them throughout the winter months.
